THE SMITH-MUNDT MODERNIZATION ACT THAT THING THEY SAY NEVER HAPPENED The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act, contained within the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013, eased some restrictions so that media produced by the U.S. Agency for Global Media and intended for foreign audiences could be distributed domestically upon request, according to its text. Prior to its passage, the content was banned from being disseminated in America. How did we come to live in a society where the government engaged in ongoing psychological operations against its people? Despite the fact that it threatens citizens' freedom to seek the truth and freely support policies rather than being coerced through deception, the use of propaganda to subtly influence the populace has historically been most prevalent during times of war. The same kinds of deceptive strategies have been employed throughout history by military and political leaders to promote and prolong the majority, if not all, wars. Fear is a potent mind-molding force that makes people more susceptible to the lies of their leaders. The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act (H.R. 5736), which President Barack Obama signed into law in 2013, also makes it legal for government-produced media, such as that which Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and other outlets broadcast overseas during the Cold War, to be directed at American citizens. It goes without saying that such government-written narratives distort the facts to portray the United States favorably. It is true that the American people are being propagandized by the U.S. government through its control of the major media outlets and tech giants, as any claim to the contrary will be refuted and finally overcome by additional government propaganda. A full-fledged Ministry of Truth worthy of Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four has been established in the United States thanks to the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012, which was passed into law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013. Due to the resulting reduction in citizen rights, we now find ourselves in a terrible system that is not just ruled by our current corrupt oligarchy but a full fledged tyranny disguised as a democracy.
